Hong Kong shopping Center of the World Sights and Sounds of Hong Kong

At night, Hong Kong is illuminated with a glow that rivals the Milky Way. As dusk approaches, the si-un gives way to neon and the visitor is faced with a dazzling array of diversions to choose from.

Whether you enjoy Western-style nightclubs, Japanese karaoke bars, hostess clubs, laser-lit discos, intimate cocktail lounges, or half-timbered British pubs, you won’t be bored come nightfall. There’s even a Poor Man’s Nightclub, which despite its name, is really a night market.

You can join half of the territory for a night at the horse races, or try something traditional like Chinese Opera or sample Hong Kong’s more Western cultural fare, with an evening at the ballet or philharmonic. Or walk into one of the ubiquitous kung fu movies. The fact that they’re in Cantonese adds to the fun, and all have English subtitles. In Wanchai, where I spent about each night myself, a visit to the Suzy Wong district is a uniquely Hong Kong way to put a cap on your evening. This area sparkles until the last star in the sky is extinguished, and then it’s time for the next bustling day. No matter where your evening rambles take you, go in the knowledge that Hong Kong is a safe city to roam, even at night. Bring enough Hong Kong Dollars though.
